I'm about to die.
This place is great, and has an awesome Calzone. The service is friendly, and it's kind of a small, family owned joint.
The ingredients are good and the food tastes very fresh. Almost everything here is customizable so if you want a weird assortment of toppings/ingredients in your food, they will probably do it without asking twice... which is nice for picky eaters like me.
You can call your order in and pick it up too, makes it pretty convenient. The plaza this is in kind of sucks because of it's size... only a few parking spaces and there always seems to be some shady types lingering about due to the liquor store/am pm nearby.
Wheat bagel with strawberry cream cheese is the shit. Get this if you're a Bagel Me n00b, you won't be let down. I wasn't!
Gonna hit this up for lunch or dinner one of these days... burger on a bagel? I'm there.
Also, their chips don't come in a basket or a bag, they come on your plate... that means, if you got something with sauce, your chips are going to be drenched in the sauce and trying to use them to eat the salsa is pointless as they will be soggy.
On the plus side, their food is pretty good and tastes fresh if they get your order right. Parking at lunch is pretty shitty as all the yuppies are there trying to get their Mexican food fix... but that's expected for Irvine.
Three stars because their salsa is good (it better be, seeing as their restaurant is named 'the salsa').
I go here, but because there are no better Mexican food places that I know of in the area. If there were, I don't think I would come here. Food can get expensive here quickly -- bring your own water and save two bucks.
Chicken Enchiladas are good
Chile Rojo is good
Burrito Mojado is good
Chips and salsa are killer
Chile verde burrito... you're next.

I've had this place bookmarked ever since I found Eric W's review (thanks Eric!). I finally tried it today, and I must say it met all of my expectations.
I had the chicken enchiladas with a plate full of rice and beans and nearly the whole basket of chips and salsa with three of the five (or six?) types of salsa available at the salsa bar. The enchiladas were HOT and steamy with a lovely cheese/sauce appearance. My girlfriend got the #11 which is a huge burrito covered in sauce with your choice of meat. It was enormous, and was more than enough for her (and me).
The service is friendly and being in the restaurant feels comfortable... which is nice, considering I walked away two pounds heavier and only 8 dollars lighter -- drink included. Needless to say, visiting Ensenada today was a good experience.
Two things though: the chairs need little rubber feet on them or something because metal chairs moving around on old tiles = screechfest. Also, their menu is in spanish so it's kind of confusing if you don't know all the terminology. No worry, though, I can't see anything being 'bad' here.
"Why is this place hated on so much?" I asked myself as I scarfed down my food. I thought it was actually pretty good, although there was a good amount of fat on my chicken. The rice was well-cooked (not mushy or crunchy like others have mentioned) and the macaroni salad tasted how macaroni salad should taste.
To satisfy my Hawaiian BBQ cravings, Aloha will definitely do the job. Oh, and they're open til 9 PM -- awesome for people with late schedules like myself.
You're alright by me, Aloha. I will be back.
Their pizza is awesome, their beer is awesome (I like the Chronic) and the atmosphere is noisy and exciting -- just how pizza parlors should be.
The only thing I can think of that sucks about this place is that there are so many damn cops waiting around to give the clubgoing douche bags across the street their dui's. You will leave this place drunk and overly full if you're not careful, so watch out for the po-po!
I actually prefer Maui over L&L (especially the L&L in Brea and in Irvine) -- for some reason those L&L's aren't all that great to me. I think the best L&L I've ever been to was the one in Cerritos/Artesia at SNG, but that's another review...
Maui's BBQ chicken is the bomb. So is their chicken Katsu. I think that's about all that I've had here but those two items are the shit. Their plate portion is huge and when I went there this weekend I saw that they added brown rice to their menu for the health nuts.
The people there are always pretty friendly and welcome you when you come in. The parking kind of sucks because there are so many other stores in the plaza, but it's not a big deal.
Sucks that I'm moving out of this area because I will truly miss coming to this place. I have no doubt though, that I'll come back when I'm in the area and am craving Hawaiian food.

- Groundskeepers start doing their shit at 6:45 a.m. -- After numerous complaints to the office, I've concluded that they really don't give a shit
- Groundskeepers haven't heard of a broom. Instead, they rake the sidewalk for an hour and a half until every leaf is raked up. Then they blow the leaves all over the cars with a leaf blower. No habla english either. Fucked.
- Gate noise up front is unbearable
- Trains honking in "silent train zone"
- Asshole bro's with their huge trucks will run you over if you don't move out of their way
- Kids running amuck throughout the property -- if they're not screaming and yelling they're crying
- Asshole downstairs neighbor beats his wife but she keeps on going back to him
*** 7/6/08 UPDATE: They were arguing again today. We'll see what happens ***
- Parking sucks balls
- Parking security will ticket the residents
- Lots of road noise
- Cars within the property drive 30-50 mph
- Cat and dog shit all over the place
- Homeless people rummaging through the trash bins
- Management office likes to play games
- Seems like people own lots of wool shit here. My clothes always seem to itch after I do laundry.
The good:
- Maintenance crew is top notch. They fix things pretty quickly and won't dick you around. They live on site.
- Close to the Ralph's shopping center that has one of the best pizza joint's inside of it -- Pepperoni's pizza, search yelp for it
- Good: Close to the freeway (bad: but you have to go through the barrio to get to the 57 and you have to go through a small industrial street to get to the 91/55)
- Fitness center has two treadmills. I haven't had to wait long to use if they were unavailable.
Survey says: if you're going to move here, get a unit that's away from the gate, away from the street, away from the train, away from the pool and away from the streets within the complex... aka move somewhere that doesn't have these problems.

Shut up. There's nothing but chains in Irvine.
This panda is good, better than the rest. Unlike other reviewers, I've experienced consistently good, fresh food here.
Just don't try their hot sauce, they don't give it to you when you order your food for a reason: it tastes like ass.
